Botanical Name: Rosa damascena

Benefits and Uses: Depression, Grief, Eczema, Frigidity, Mature Skin, Menopause, Stress

Rose, an exquisite flower variety, is used to produce two unique products: Rose Concrete and Rose Absolute. Rose Concrete is derived from the solvent extraction of fresh blossoms of Rosa Damascena P. Miller. The petals are immersed in a solvent (hexane), which extracts the essential oil.

The hexane is then evaporated, leaving behind the Rose Concrete, which contains at least 60% of Rose Absolute and the remainder is natural wax. It takes more than 400 kilograms of rose blossoms to produce one kilogram of Rose Concrete. Rose Concrete is used in cosmetics for its rejuvenating and nourishing benefits. It also finds use in the production of soaps and candles due to its rose scent.

Rose Absolute is extracted from the concrete under low temperatures. Unlike Bulgarian rose oil, hot vapors are not involved in the production, therefore the scent is more reminiscent of the rose Damascena flower. Additionally, Rose Absolute has a high content of phenyl-ethyl alcohol, which gives it a unique odor. It is widely used in perfumery to add the characteristic rose note in a perfume formulation.
